Preview Volkswagen Taos 2022
The race for new crossovers and SUVs isn’t expected to slow down anytime soon and one of the latest entries is from VW, which recently unveiled its all-new Taos crossover.
The newcomer is marketed as the smaller version of the Tiguan and aims to provide consumers with a subcompact crossover. Despite its relatively narrow dimensions, the 2022 Taos has received a great reception from American consumers and critics alike thanks to its athletic exterior and solid build quality, which people expect from Volkswagen.
The Taos 2022’s design moves away from Volkswagen’s mundane old design language, even though it looks a lot like all VW vehicles. The bold design is based on the award-winning MBQ platform which can also be seen on several other vehicles made by the brand. The raised hood as well as the plunging air intakes present on either side of the front bumper not only set the right tone for a modern midsize crossover, but also elevate its rugged stance.
A set of eye-catching features such as LED headlights and taillights, daytime running lights, roof rails and customizable alloy rims make the exterior a flawless element of the Taos. The rear is essentially a miniature version of VW Atlas and therefore does not appear out of place from any angle.
The interior has just the right amount of quirks and features that are all easily accessible to the two people sitting up front. The clean but distinct lines of the dashboard mark all layers well and make it interesting without getting too busy.
The open interior design eliminates any kind of claustrophobic feeling and lets plenty of light inside to improve the mood of all occupants. A long wheelbase also means that the five people will have enough space to lie down comfortably without hassle. Luggage space remains ample despite having sufficient legroom for passengers, however, you can fold down the rear seats if you want more cargo space.
All variants of the Taos 2022 are equipped with VW’s latest infotainment system. Some features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, USB and Bluetooth connectivity, and even wireless charging and multi-phone connectivity, though the latter two are only available in the top two trim levels.
For better audio output, the SEL version comes with a premium 12-channel audio system that lets you fully enjoy your favorite content in the car without missing out on a home theater system.
The Taos 2022 is powered by a revised 1.5L turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 158 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque, all of the power is routed through a 7-speed DSG transmission which is essentially the VW version of the engine. ‘a DCT. The high compression ratio delivers increased performance while the turbocharger and Miller cycle help bring back solid fuel economy values ââof 28 mpg (city and highway combined). Surprisingly, all Taos models are equipped with VW’s 4Motion system which quickly activates all four wheels as soon as it detects wheel slip.
The VW Taos 2022 is available in S, SE and SEL variants. The base S variant starts at $ 24,190, while SE is priced at $ 28,440 and finally the high-end SEL version costs $ 32,685.
