The Philadelphia Opera House has announced the upcoming online premiere of Ana SokoloviÄ’s cinematic opera “Svadba”. The work will premiere on January 28, 2022 on Boston Lyric Opera’s operabox.tv and on the Opera Philadelphia Channel.
The film is a Boston Lyric Opera and Opera Philadelphia co-production, and stars Chabrelle D. Williams as Milica the Bride, Brianna J. Robinson as Lena the Elder, Maggie Finnegan as Danica, Mack Wolz in Zora, Vera Savage as Nada and Hannah Ludwig as Ljubica. Daniela Candillari directs a production by Shura Baryshnikov. Ana NovaÄiÄ is production designer, Katherine Castro is director of photography and Lena Borovci is costume designer.
âAna’s music creates a transcendent world of sound like anything I’ve heard in contemporary opera,â Stanford Calderwood Acting General and Artistic Director Bradley Vernatter said in an official statement. âWe had the opportunity to interpret this sweet, emotional and universal story through the intersection of music, dance, design and cinema. âSvadbaâ allows us to escape into a whole new world and celebrate the beauty of conviviality. “
âWeddings are a turning point in the lives of many women, with emotional and joyful moments,â said composer Ana SokoloviÄ. “I wanted to explore these themes, in a place where we are aware of private and ancient rituals between a bride and her girlfriends.”
âSvadbaâ had its US premiere in November 2013 at the Philadelphia Opera House.
