These funds will help improve sanitation and drinking water infrastructure.

Northwest Ohio communities are receiving more than $15 million in low-interest financing and principal repayment from the Ohio EPA.

These funds will help improve sanitation and drinking water infrastructure.

The loans were approved between Oct. 1 and Dec. 31, 2021, Crawford County Now reported. The Ohio EPA issued more than $159.9 million in statewide loans in the fourth quarter of 2021, including $22 million in principal forgiveness.

The projects include managing the quality of surface water and Ohio’s drinking water systems, Crawford County Now reported, with a focus on repairing low-income homeowners.

Northwest Ohio projects receiving funding for Q4 2021 include:

  • Delphis: $10.3 million for two projects. A loan of $6.97 million will finance the final phase of a membrane filter replacement project at the wastewater treatment plant. A $3.35 million loan will fund a new 500,000-gallon elevated drinking water storage tank and improvements to sections of the water distribution system piping along the Miami Erie Canal and on Lima Avenue.
  • Huron: $2.9 million to install tubular settlers in the drinking water plant’s existing settling ponds, as well as construct a new building erected on top of the tubular settlers.
  • Cridersville: $1.1 million to replace the sanitary sewer between Rail Road and South Dixie Highway. A sanitary sewer line will also be replaced on South Dixie, south of East Main.
  • Shelby: $289,600 to replace 41 lead service lines in the drinking water system. This loan includes $288,600 in principal repayment.
  • Oak Harbor: $225,331 for upgrades to the 500,000-gallon elevated drinking water storage tank, including interior and exterior cladding.
  • Marblehead: $126,688 to design a project to construct a new elevated drinking water storage tank at the south end of the water distribution system.
  • Bucyrus: $107,877 to design a new waterline extension project to connect the Nevada Village distribution system to the Bucyrus distribution system. Bucyrus will provide Nevada with the community’s daily supply of drinking water.
  • Ayersville Water and Sewer District: $46,114 to design a project to build an aeration system near the intersection of Shindler Road, Fullmer Road and Ayersville Pleasant Bend Road.
