Collins DuPont designs the interior at Mangrove Bay

Collins DuPont Design Group, a leading Florida-based interior design firm with 35 years of experience, has been hired to transform a home in Mangrove Bay, an exclusive and luxurious waterfront enclave nestled along of the Gordon River in Naples.

“Our design inspiration for this home came from high-end yacht clubs located across Florida and Hawaii,” commented Hailey Burkhardt, designer at Collins DuPont.

Mangrove Bay was designed by MHK Architects and developed by Lotus Construction.

John Orgren, Residential Studio Director at MHK Architecture and Planning, said: “Our goal with Mangrove Bay was to build a neighborhood that has a small-town character consistent with Naples. Each of the 53 luxury residences would have gorgeous open-concept floor plans. , as well as their own private boat slip.

“We are proud of the beauty of Mangrove Bay and its contribution to the beauty and uniqueness of Naples,” said Jon Rubinton, developer of Mangrove Bay and owner of Lotus Construction, LLC.

The fact that the houses each had a private boat launch inspired Collins DuPont’s designs.

“When Collins DuPont was initially given the opportunity to design the interior of the home on Lot 50, the goal was for it to become a specification home that showcased the high aesthetics that these homes provide to its owners. “, recalled Burkhardt.

Many of the elements explored by the design team were elements often found in and around yacht clubs.

“Large open sections expose dining rooms and other important areas of the house to waterways, all of which serve to show off the river on which Mangrove Bay was built,” Burkhardt said. “Also inside, the sliding barn doors give the house a more relaxed feel and serve to open up the guest bedroom to the Gordon River.”

Collins DuPont has developed a reputation over the years for customizing its projects.

“We modified the layout of the house to accommodate a bar with a high-gloss lacquer finish,” Burkhardt acknowledged. “The understated blue tone of the bar is seen consistently throughout the home. It is soothing and nautical in nature and the perfect contrast to the warm Wood Floor hue.”

Hailey further stated, “We were able to reallocate space from one of the underutilized bedrooms to make this possible, which ends up making the bar an exciting focal point of the main living space.”

Collins DuPont Design Group is also renowned for its custom ceiling elements. Their designers have found that ceilings are often overlooked when it comes to designing space. However, to truly tie all the elements together in a custom design for a luxury home, every surface must be considered to ensure that all the elements work in harmony with each other.

Collins DuPont Design Group co-founder Sherri DuPont commented on the Mangrove Bay home’s new custom ceiling.

“We created floating slab ceiling detailing to bring the color from the floor to the ceiling, which helps highlight the height of the area,” DuPont said.

In addition to the structural elements of the bar and the ceiling, the addition of a fireplace in the central area was important to the overall design of the house.

“We added an electric fireplace in the great room to create a warm and inviting space, complete with an expansive wall of sliding doors that open to the large outdoor living space,” Burkhardt said. “This cozy yet beautiful item makes it easy to host parties while keeping the doors open and creating a space where owners can gather with friends or family while feeling the cool river breeze.”

The Collins DuPont team members wanted to not only highlight the architecture of the house, but also highlight an opportunity offered by the space.

“We turned a guest bedroom into an office and added barn doors that open up to the Gordon River, which creates a beautiful view while working remotely,” Burkhardt recalls. “Over the past two years, as more and more people continue to work from home, the addition of a study to this particular home has created the perfect home office space with the serene waters of the seaside. the river in the background.”

One challenge the team had to overcome was finding a better solution for the master bathroom layout.

“The difficulty with a master bathroom was that most homeowners wanted double sinks while still allowing enough space for an oversized walk-in shower and tub,” DuPont said. “Thinking that a split layout might be best, the team opted for a design that didn’t make the room heavy on one side relative to the other. This was made possible by placing a vanity on either side of the bathroom versus a long double vanity.

As a testament to Collins DuPont’s brilliant design work, this spec house was sold before completion, with the client seeing the design direction and mood boards alone.
