Apple’s Studio display has a serious firmware issue

Apple only started selling the Studio Display on March 18, but some owners already need to get them repaired.
As MacRumors reports, the Studio Display regularly receives firmware updates from Apple, but some owners are seeing a failure message when they attempt an update. The message says: “The Apple Studio Display firmware update could not be completed. Try again in an hour. If the problem persists, contact an Apple Authorized Service Provider.
A growing thread on Apple support forums suggests this isn’t an isolated incident. In response, Apple is advising some owners to take their screen to an Apple Store or Authorized Repair Center for repairs. That’s not what you want to hear for a product purchased less than a month ago, and especially one as big and awkward to carry around as a 27-inch screen that weighs almost 14 pounds.

What makes this firmware failure so surprising is the fact that the Studio Display relies on a hardware/software combination that Apple is very familiar with. There’s an Apple A13 system-on-chip at the heart of the display and it runs on iOS.
