Announcement regarding the construction of a new headquarters with financing from a green loan

Nikon Corporation (Nikon) is pleased to announce the start of construction of a new headquarters with funding from Green Loan*1 for some of the necessary expenses. Construction will begin in July 2022 and is expected to be completed in May 2024.

As previously announced on November 4, 2021, Nikon has planned the construction of a new headquarters on vacant land at the Oi factory premises in Shinagawa-ku, Tokyo. It aims to create an office place that promotes digitization and a workplace that supports flexible working styles. It is also planned to be an environmentally friendly office building rooted in the local community, with a focus on sustainability.

Specifically, the building is designed with a sunshade exterior facade system to reduce the energy needed for air conditioning, in addition to being a structure that promotes natural ventilation and allows abundant daylight inside. In addition, it will be equipped with a VAV (Variable Air Volume) system that responds to the rate of use of the offices. The combination of these systems significantly reduces the amount of energy used by the building and the new headquarters is expected to be ZEB Ready certified*2 and earn BELS’ highest five-star rank*3. The building is also planned to generate renewable energy through a solar power generation system.

A portion of the construction costs for the new headquarters is being financed by Green Loan’s syndicated term loan which is limited to projects in which environmental efficiency is considered. The loan was rated at the highest Green1 (g1/m1) by Japan Credit Rating Agency, Ltd. This shows that the construction of the new headquarters has been assessed as a project in which adequate environmental improvements can be expected and particular attention is paid to avoiding potentially negative effects on environmental and social aspects.

The planned construction site, Oi Plant, is where Nikon has had its base for over 100 years and has produced various products and services. With its new headquarters, Nikon will continuously contribute to a better and sustainable world.
